Service-Learning& Literacy

The goal of this module is for students to increase literacy awareness in their community. Critical readings on Service Learning accompany a dialogue with peers about community, citizenship, service, and literacy to help meet this objective.  

 

Through cooperative learning--online interaction with peers--students create an outline to promote literacy awareness with a community agency. 

 

Students become rhetorically aware of their digital composition environment through increased audience awareness of peers, instructors, and the community. They then practice their rhetorical skills on discussion boards and in a brief final essay to the public that is a "Call for Literacy."
